The best way to incorporate mental performance skills that we teach is to do it in practice! Modern Outlook prepares your team with cognitive and body based regulation skills and then designs a practice with coaches where athletes gradually expose themselves team to stress. Grounding breaks are led by our therapists that allow the athlete to incorporate the skills that they’ve prepared to try. Practicing skills through exposure therapy is one of the fastest ways an athlete can learn to deal with stress.

Breathwork and Ice bath sessions are an amazing way to bond with your team and experience the mental and physical benefits of breath and cold exposure. This 3 hour experience your team will be coached through the skills of emotional regulation and lean into the power of team connection and vulnerability. The afterglow of this session is incredible.

Modern Outlook performs team assessments to provide an understanding to coach and players of where the team is operating from an emotional standpoint. The assessments highlights needs, areas of strength and challenges as well as recommended interventions. MO staff provide 30 minute individual sessions to athletes and staff and then provide a formal review for the team and athletic staff. Team assessments can be particularly helpful when there is unresolved conflict, team trauma or difficulty gelling as a team.
Mental Performance Practice
True growth happens in practice. Modern Outlook teaches athletes mental performance skills they need, then integrates those skills directly into practice. Together with coaches and players, we design sessions that introduce controlled stress so athletes can test and strengthen their regulation abilities. We plan out and replay difficult in game situations in practice and then allow our athletes to choose skills. Our therapists lead grounding moments throughout practice, building awareness to the nervous system and helping each player lean into new tools. Rooted in exposure therapy, this approach accelerates stress tolerance and is the fastest way to allow teams to learn mental skills.
Breathwork Workshop
A breathwork class for athletes is a focused session designed to enhance performance, recovery, and mental clarity through intentional breathing techniques. Led by an experienced instructor, the class begins with an introduction to how breathwork can optimize athletic abilities, reduce stress, and improve focus. Athletes are then guided through a series of targeted exercises, including deep diaphragmatic breathing, controlled inhales and exhales, and rhythmic patterns that promote endurance, energy, and recovery. These techniques help athletes regulate their nervous system, improve lung capacity, and stay calm under pressure. The session wraps up with a restorative breathing practice to promote relaxation and reduce muscle tension, leaving athletes feeling grounded and ready to perform. Breathwork classes offer athletes a simple, effective tool to support peak performance and overall well-being.
Ice Bath Workshop
Ice baths offer both mental and physical benefits for athletes. Physically, they reduce muscle inflammation, soreness, and fatigue by constricting blood vessels and flushing out waste products. This helps accelerate recovery as fresh, oxygen-rich blood returns to the muscles. Mentally, ice baths build resilience and mental toughness, as athletes learn to stay calm under discomfort. This improves stress management, focus, and clarity, making them more prepared for high-pressure situations.
